Braided Cable Throw Pillow Crochet Pattern

The Braided Cable is a beautiful crochet stitch. I have used it in many patterns like beanies, scarves, ear warmers, blankets and throw pillows.

If you are familiar with the Textured Fun Blanket then you may have worked the Braided Cable Stitch Square. You may also be aware that I am turning all 6 squares in to Throw Pillows that will match.

The Braided Cable Throw Pillow Crochet Pattern is for an 18′ square pillow. It is made in 2 panels and crocheted together. I recommend to stuff with a throw pillow insert that is washable. Such as this one from Amazon. As it is crocheted together and will not be able to remove the inside pillow when washing. You can also use Poly-Fil and stuff using a pillowcase or fabric liner.

Materials Needed

  • I 5.5mm Crochet Hook, or size needed to obtain gauge
  • 550 yds (per pillow) Medium #4 weight yarn, Big Twist Value Yarn found at JoAnns (100% acrylic, 6oz/170g, 371yds/339m)
  • 6 18” Pillow Inserts (1 for each square) – Machine Washable is Recommended as it will not be removeable
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry Needle

Gauge

  • 4” square = 7.25 Rows x 12.5 DC

Stitches Used/Abbreviations (US Terms)

Pattern Notes

  • Each Square Pattern is for an 18” square pillow insert, however each square will measure approximately 15” and will stretch to fit.
  • Beginning stitch is made with a chainless starting double crochet (CSDC). This technique eliminates any chaining at the beginning of the row and looks just like a regular double crochet. If you prefer, you may replace it with a chain 3 to count as the first stitch.

I have been crocheting since I was a child. My huge love for crochet has opened this opportunity to teach others through this blog and online learning.

  1. Hi! I apologize if this has already been asked, but can you Please help me translate this pattern for left handed crocheters? I’ve been trying for hours with no success. Thank you!

    1. I have very limited experience with left handed crocheting. Let me ask around in my Facebook group if anyone can help.

    2. Nikki can you email me or message me on my Crochet It Creations fb page? I have someone making a left handed video.

      1. Can I also have the link to the video? I’m left handed as well! I’m still new to crochet, so it’s challenging, and I’m a visual person. 🙂

  2. Jessica, this is a beautiful pattern that I would love to make into an afghan. Will you please tell me how many starting stitches I would need to do this? I love the elegant look of cables but I am not very good at knitting. 😊

    1. Throw blankets are typically 50”x60”. You can use gauge to calculate. Maybe I’ll make that my next pattern project 😊

      1. Thank you so much for the information. I hope you do make it a project. 😊
