Week 6: Celtic Stitch – Textured Fun Square Sampler Blanket Crochet Along

celtic stitch crochet pattern

Week 6 is the last square of the Textured Fun Blanket Crochet Along… we are here with the Celtic Stitch!

The Celtic Stitch is one of my favorite crochet techniques. It uses treble crochet post stitches that cross over one another. It gives the fabric the beautiful weaved look. Check out the Celtic Stitch in another pattern, like the Square Sampler Poncho Crochet Pattern.

If you are coming in late on the Crochet Along, then no worries. We are making a blanket with fun crochet stitches in a square sampler fashion. You can find the previous squares as follows:

See post HERE where I go over the details of the pattern and materials needed. If you are making the throw blanket size you will need to make 8 of the Celtic Stitch. Or how many to get to your 56 squares of the throw blanket size. If you would like to make a different size, see the details page.

Materials Needed

  • I 5.5mm Crochet Hook
  • Medium #4 weight yarn, Big Twist Value Yarns found at JoAnns (100% acrylic, 6oz/170g, 371yds/339m) in Medium Teal, Medium Grey, Soft Grey, and White
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry Needle

  • 4” square = I5.5mm 7.25 Rows x 12.5 DC

Stitches Used/Abbreviations (US Terms)

Pattern Notes

  • Beginning stitch of each square is made with a chainless starting double crochet (CSDC). This technique eliminates any chaining at the beginning of the row and looks just like a regular double crochet. If this is difficult for you, you may replace with a chain 3 to count as the first stitch.
  • Each square measure approximately 7”
  • The photos of the throw size, making 56 squares in 4 different colors of all the stitch variations.
  • Note that the first 3 squares use a J hook and the last 3 use an I hook
  • 1 skein of Big Twist will make approximately 7 squares

  1. Great instructions!!! Could you please tell me what the multiple is to make it larger? I’d like to make a blanket using just this stitch💜

  2. Thank you very much for video “how to crochet crossed FP stitches on a square piece. I have a pattern for a dish cloth with 3 columns of crossed FP stitches and I don’t understand the written instructions. You have done a very clear explanation and now I can complete my project.
