Below you will find the written instructions plus full video tutorial for how to make this classy Button Scarf with Fringe on a circular knitting machine!

I have been a crocheter for years and have tried to knit many times without success. I have seen circular knitting machines on the internet and thought that could be my way to enter the knitting world. I have loved it so much!

My first circular knitting machine was early 2021 and it was a Sentro 48 needle. I loved it so much but the quality of Sentro just wasn’t there. I had many issues with the machine, such as missing gears when turning the handle, grinding noise, plus difficulty with several yarns. I was unable to take the machine apart due to the screws stripping. So, I decided up splurge on an Addi King Size 46 needle and I love it! The quality is so much better!

I bought my Addi King Size Knitting Machine from www.hobiumyarns.com. I opted to not go with Amazon as I was worried it may be a knock off. It is an investment but I used it as a tool to grow my business. Although I prefer the Addi, the Sentro was a good machine to start with. I didn’t want to make a big purchase if I wasn’t sure loom knitting was for me.

I have been making beanies on the Addi knitting machine plus a few snowmen this winter. But Scarf making is one of my favorites. I used 1 Cake of Caron Big Cakes yarn to make a long traditional style scarf with fringe and it is so cute! I love the self striping yarn and how it makes blocks of different colors for the scarf.

This pattern below is for a button scarf, which measures about 42″ long. It is such a classy style and will level up any outfit.

Materials Needed

Measurements

  • Finished Scarf Length with Fringe – 47″
  • Body of Scarf 42″L x 6″W
  • Finished Button Loop 8″L x 2.75″W

Step 1: Work the Scarf

Cast on Big Twist Soft Yarn in color Cream and knit 200 rows. Attach a contrasting color and knit for about 10 rows. Allow the yarn to fall off the machine.

I like to use my Black & Decker 4v Cordless Electric Screwdriver and Addi Knitting Machine Adapter from Maker Parts on Etsy.

Step 2: Close the Scarf

Pull the yarn from starting side of the scarf tight to cinch it closed. Knot that side of the scarf, but leave the tail long for attaching the button loop.

Take the waste yarn side and find the half way point of the round of the Cream colored row. (count 23 stitches over from the color change for the Addi 46 pin machine) Using a small crochet hook close the scarf across by looping the stitches together. (see video for instructions) Fasten off and weave in ends.

Step 3: Make the Button Loop

Using 5mm Knitting Needles, cast on 20. K1, [K1 P1] x 9, P1 – repeat for 40 rows and cast off. Fasten off leaving a tail for attaching buttons.

Or replace with 40 rows on the 22 needle knitting machine.

Step 4: Attaching the Loop and Buttons

Place the Loop around the cinched side of the scarf. Sew on and attach the buttons.

Step 5: Add Fringe

Cut 28 strips of yarn that are about 12″ long (I like to wrap the yarn around my iPhone but a notebook or piece of cardboard would work to get even pieces). Attach 4 pieces of yarn together in 7 places evenly across the straight edge of the scarf.
