I’m not much in to crocheting blankets, especially large ones, because I get bored with them. When I do work on them, I like a bigger stitch and something simple so I can get it done as soon as possible. I like this Color Block Blanket Crochet Pattern because it uses just double crochet stitches. The Granny Stripe Stitch gives it some definition without complicating the crochet pattern.

I used Big Twist Value Yarn, which can be found at your local Joann Fabrics store. I like this yarn for blankets because it is inexpensive and it’s a good worsted weight yarn. It comes in a large range of colors and at 371 yards in a skein you can get a lot of stitches in.
I chose black and white for this pattern because I like the color contrast. It worked out well for the color blocks, but you can make in any color of your choosing. In fact, the next blanket I’m making in this pattern will be in red, white and blue for Forth of July. Stay tuned for photos.
The granny strip stitches were used for this crochet blanket pattern. It is a cluster of 3 double crochet stitches which are placed between each cluster of the previous rows. After that, simple single crochet border was added. I thought about doing a more fun border, but I really liked the simplicity that the single crochet gave.
Because of the type of stitch repeat, this crochet blanket pattern can easily be made in any size of your choosing. You will simply need to adjust the beginning chain and ending row count. Use the chart given to adjust for the size you are wanting to make. The example of the written instructions are for the throw size, which measures 50″ x 60″. See pattern notes for the stitch repeat to make the blanket smaller or larger.
