The Dog Blanket uses single crochet stitches. Graph is included to follow at bottom of pattern. Each square equals 1 single crochet. See post HERE for further guidance on following graph patterns. Finished measurements are about 26″ Square and for a small to medium dog, but can be made larger with more rows and yarn.

Pattern can also be made into a dog mat instead of blanket. Use a smaller hook size than the K 6.5mm, like an I 5.5mm hook. Some rows should also be eliminated from the beginning and end of the graph to make smaller for the mat. A mat would be perfect to use for wiping paws or at the food bowls.

Materials Needed

  • K 6.5mm Crochet Hook
  • 2 Skeins in contrasting colors of Bernat Blanket Pet
  • Scissors
  • Wide Finishing Needle

Gauge

  • 4” square = 9 rows x 9 SC

Stitches Used/Abbreviations (US Terms)

Pattern Notes

  • Pattern is worked in a graph with each SC equaling 1 square
  • To switch colors complete all but the last step of the SC stitch. Drop the color you are working with and pick up the next color. Finish the stitch with the new color, crocheting over the previous color (carrying the yarn).
  • I rolled some of the blue yarn into a ball. So, Instead of carrying the blue yarn all the way across the center on the paws, I had 2 balls of blue to work with. I did this same process with the grey and the dog bone section. You don’t want to carry your yarn over long sections of 1 color because it will show through.
  • If you need help with working a graph, see post HERE
  • Completed blanket measures approximately 26” square, it will fit a small to medium dog. If you would like to make larger, you can add stitches to the foundation row and rows at the beginning & end of graph. Every 9 rows/stitches equal 4”.
  • If you would like to make a pet mat instead of a blanket, use a I 5.5mm Crochet Hook and reduce to 4 rows of main color before and after the graph instead of 10 that the blanket uses..
