The crochet pattern uses Bernat Maker Home Dec Bulky yarn. I found this yarn at my local Michael’s store or purchase online at Yarnspirations.com. Find a similar yarn on yarnsub.com. This yarn is perfect and works up quick!

The crochet backpack pattern is worked from the bottom up. Minimal sewing is used to attach the straps and top flap. Find a wooden toggle at most of your local craft stores.

This bag would be perfect for an on-the-go bag to hold your little ones favorite items. Or use it as a swim/beach bag! My daughter absolutely loves this crochet backpack and takes it with her everywhere.

Row 20: Ch 1, SC2TOG, SC in 8 st, SC2TOG (10) Finish off.

Attach yarn with a Sl St to the corner of row 1. SC up the side placing 1 SC at the end of each row, SC in 5 st of row 20, ch 5 (for button loop), SC in remaining 5 st of row 20, SC back down the other side. Finish off when reaching row 1 leaving a long tail for sewing on.

Find the back side of the backpack, the side that you can see the row joins. Line up the top flap in the center. Sew row 1 of the flap to row 25 or 26 of the backpack. Be sure to not sew over row 27 (the SC & ch 1 row), that is where you will weave in the drawstring.

Sew the first 3 rows of the straps to the rows below where you sewed the flap. I recommend to sew it upside down so the straps will lay over where you sewed it to.

Sew the bottom of the straps to the bottom corners of the backpack. Sewing in the same manner where they’re tucked under.

Chain 140 for the drawstring. Finish off and weave in and out of the ch 1 spaces in row 27. Attach a wooden toggle button to the center where it will line up with the ch 5 from the top flap.
