Make a Game Day Beanie in your favorite team colors! Perfect for any sport whether it’s high school, college, or professional. It will be sure to keep you warm while cheering them on.
Pattern is worked from the brim up and is written for adult size. Make in solid colors or add stripes. Or add in your teams name! You can do this either by crocheting in a graph as you work the beanie or “cross stitching” over the stitches.
See HERE for how to graph crochet. This is done where you crochet different colors and carry your yarn as you work. Each graph block equals 1 single crochet. I made my own graph using Stitch Fiddle, which is a website for crafters. It is free to use, but there is a paid version with added features.
See HERE for how to Cross Stitch over your crochet. The P hat was made using Cross Stitch technique. Each SC is almost square and works perfect for cross stitch. Use the 4 corners of the stitch as you would if actually cross stitching.
Materials Needed
- I 5.5mm crochet hook
- Medium #4 weight yarn in team colors
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle
- Optional: Clover Pom Pom Maker
Gauge
- 1” square = 4sc x 3 rows
Stitches Used/Abbreviations (US Terms)
- HDC – Half Double Crochet
- SC – Single Crochet
- SC2TOG – Single Crochet Together or Decrease
- BLO – Back Loop Only
Pattern Notes
- Beanie comes in adult size and is worked from the brim up
- Cross stitch on to the single crochet stitches to “write” your team’s letter or name after you are finished with the pattern. Each SC counts as 1 square for your cross stitch
- Or make as a graph and write your team’s name as you work the beanie. I recommend crocheting in BLO for the body of the beanie if crocheting in a graph to get the rows straight up & down, not slanted. To crochet in a graph, first decide what you want to “write”. Use graph paper or a website like stitchfiddle.com to make your letters. Each sc of the beanie will count as 1 box. Change colors in order of the graph to get your design. See post HERE for how to work Graph Patterns.

Sl St first row and last row together. Keep sl st seam on the outside, since brim will be folded in half. Do not finish off, continues to work the beanie. Turn brim vertically and work horizontally along the ends of the rows for the beanie.
