The Mainstream Crochet Beanie is a free pattern here on CrochetItCreations.com. It comes in 8 sizes, newborn thru adult.
It’ll be your favorite winter hat crochet pattern. It is made with a unique style; body of the crochet beanie in flat rows first. Back loop and front loop technique is used to give the stitches more definition.
After you work the flat rows, close it up to make a circle. Add a brim then close the top. Attach a pom pom to the top to make a fur crochet beanie.
The Mainstream Crochet Beanie uses worsted weight yarn. I used I Love This Yarn from Hobby Lobby for the crochet hats in the photos. You will also need an I 5.5mm crochet hook. Clover Amour are my favorite hooks. They have amazing glide and an ergonomic handle.
The crochet beanie works up fast and is perfect for your next market prep.

There’s no mention of a beginning chain…?
Pattern uses a foundation row. If you prefer to use a chain, chain to the number in the chart + 1. Beginning chain does not count as a stitch
It uses a foundation row. The chart states how many. See stitches for link of how to make foundation row. Or replace with chaining to # listed in chart + 1. Turn HDC in 2nd ch from hook, with beginning chain NOT counting as a stitch.
can you provide the US Letter hook size please?
An I 5.5mm Crochet Hook – also states under materials needed.
Thank you for the great pattern. It’s easily adjustable to size and the information needed to make a larger hat can easily be figured out from everything in the post (20 inches is generally considered teen or a small adult hat and would never fit over my hair as I have a lot of it!)
This is my new favorite beanie pattern thank you so much, although i found myself doing well over 44 rows for my boyfriends beanie i lost count of the rows but the pattern is easy to adjust as needed. Thanks again.
Can I do this using a light 3, 4 mm hook. If not do you have any similar beanie patterns for same age group that uses lighter wool? A question of funding really, I would like to use the wool I have been given rather than buy anymore.
Should the gauge be the same?
