Plant Hanger Crochet Pattern

This Plant Hanger Crochet Pattern is something I have been wanting to make for a long time! What better way to display a house plant than to have it hanging on a plant hanger that you made yourself. Such a beautiful thing to look at inside or outside your home.

The crochet pattern is simple using basic crochet stitches. I recommend using cotton yarn due to its durability, but you could use any worsted weight yarn you prefer. This pattern uses 2 strands of yarn held together.

Pattern was created for a 3 quart indoor hanging pot, but can easily be adjusted for any pot size. Simply add or take away sc in round 1. Or you could add chains after round 5 (increase to 7 chains on each loop). This 3 quart pot measured about 5″ x 5″. The Plant Hanger was made to fit a little snug.

  • Tapestry Needle
  • Scissors
  • 3 quart plant

Pattern Notes

  • Pattern is written in U.S. Crochet Terms
  • For pots that measures about 5” wide x 5” tall (3 quarts), but you could most certainly make larger or smaller
  • Optional to add tassel to bottom. See here how to make a tassel

Using 2 strands of Cotton Yarn held together

Round 1: sc 10 times in magic circle. (10) join

Rounds 2-3: ch 1, sc in first st, *ch 5, sc in next st* repeat around until you have sc in last stitch. Ch 2, dc in first loop (10 loops)

Rounds 4 – 12: *Ch 6, sc in top of next loop* repeat around ch 3 on last loop and dc in dc from previous row. (10 loops)

Do not finish off. Chain 100. Count over to center of hanger, 5 loops over. Making sure chain is not twisted, slip stitch to center of loop. Either finish off or sl st into each chain until you are 2 loops over. (I slip stitched because I am not a fan of weaving in ends)

Chain 100. Being sure chain is not twisted, sl st to other side 2 loops over from other long chain. Finish off. Weave in ends.

Cut a strip of yarn about 20” long. Hold the plant hanger from the top of the chains. Tie a knot around the top of the chains about 3” down to create a loop for hanging. Wrap the remainder of the yarn around. Take a needle and weave the end through the center.

Create a tassel to attach to the bottom. See post
here how to make a tassel. Sew tassel on to the bottom center of the plant hanger. Weave through the tassel and the plant hanger several times.
