Sherpa is EVERYWHERE these days! Everyone is wearing those cozy Sherpa pull overs or jackets. I may have one or two myself šŸ™‚

So, what is sherpa? Sherpa is fabric that is made from polyester, acrylic, or cotton. It is sometimes referred to as faux sheepskin. And let me tell you, Bernat Pipsqueak is PERFECT as a Sherpa Replica!!!

Bernat Pipsqueak by Yarnspirations is a bulky weight polyester yarn. It feels SUPER soft and squishy. The strands are lined with fluffy fabric. Because of the fluffiness the stitches can be difficult to see. Of course, I wanted to make a whole sweater out of this yarn but because of those hard-to-see stitches, I settled for a super cute sherpa lined ear warmer.

Red Heart Soft Essentials is also a Bulky #5 weight yarn. It is used for the outside of this Ear Warmer. Lining it with the Sherpa Bernat Pipsqueak makes for a VERY warm Ear Warmer Headband. Perfect for those frigid climates and being outdoors for a period.

Make the Sherpa Ear Warmer in any size. The pattern is written for an adult size, but measurement chart is included for adjusting pattern. Make your first row, foundation row, in the length needed.

The 2 pieces are not sewn together, but crocheted together. Lay the Sherpa layer inside the outer layer and crochet a row with the Bernat Pipsqueak to join the two layers together.

Check out the matching Sherpa Cowl Crochet Pattern, which uses the remainder of the skeins plus an additional skein of each.

Materials Needed

  • K 6.5 mm & I 5.5mm Crochet Hooks
  • 1 Skein of Red Heart Soft Essentials, or any Bulky #5 Yarn and 1 Skein of Bernat Pipsqueak Yarn for Sherpa feel
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry Needle
  • Measuring tape if adjusting size

Gauge

  • 2ā€ square = 6 DC x 3 Rows of Red Heart Soft Essentials & K hook

Stitches Used/Abbreviations (US Terms)

  • DC – Double Crochet
  • SC – Single Crochet
  • FPDC – Front Post Double Crochet

Pattern Notes

  • Beginning chain DOES NOT count as a stitch.
  • It is difficult to see stitches on the Bernat Pipsqueak Yarn. You will need to feel them to count. Just do the best you can. It also works up as a wider gauge, switch to an I hook.
  • Make in any size using the chart at the end as a guide for measurements.
