Easy Hanging Yarn Wall Decor

DIY Yarn Wall Decor Art

This easy yarn wall decor is the perfect completion to my craft room. Several months ago my husband and I put together a yarn/craft room for me. All my yarn is along one wall in shelves or on a peg board. Although I love looking at my yarn stash, my walls were looking a little empty.

See, I have been crocheting since I was a child. Since then, my yarn has always been stashed in different places. Some places would be in plastic tubs, bags, storage cubes, and in closets. I have a huge love for this craft, so I wanted to display it a little differently. I love looking at all of it at once.

Yarn Storage Craft Room

This concept is made up of 2 Cube Shelves and an 8′ peg board. The peg board can store yarn by using hooks. I purchased these hooks off of Amazon. They are 4″ long are are perfect for holding yarn. I also purchased the cute little buckets from Target’s dollar section. They hold buttons, extra hooks, and other materials.

The first yarn wall decor I made was a simple one. It uses a stick and any yarn you wish to use.

I make multiple even strands of yarn by wrapping it around something. In this case, I wanted long strands. I have an old canvas in my craft room. It was about 20″ long. I took and wrapped my yarn around it many, many times. Then take and cut the strands even across. I used Mandala yarn in Genie for my project.

After cutting the strips of yarn, I knotted them on a wooden stick. This stick is no special stick, just something I found in my yard. I like the look of it. After I tied the yarn strips on to the stick, I cut them in an angle. Then attach a piece of yarn to hang it with.

This project is truly that simple. You have a beautiful piece of yarn wall decor without the expense. This project was free to me since I used left over yarn from a cardigan that I was making. Score!

If your strands are wavy like mine, straighten them out by wet blocking them. Wet blocking is a technique where you spray your work with light water. Lay it flat in the position you wish and allow to dry. This also works while hanging up.
