Scrubby Sweeper Cover crochet pattern by Crochet It Creations uses cotton and scrubby yarn. If you have never used Red Heart’s Scrubby yarn….you definitely have to!! It works so well for cleaning. I have made many square cloths that I use for dishes and cleaning around the house. I knew that a Scrubby Sweeper Cover was NEEDED!!

Red Heart’s Scrubby Cotton comes with the crochet pattern for the dish cloths, as shown in the photo below, on the pattern label. Like I said, they are AWESOME! They scrub well, pick up dirt, hair, and even lint!

Scrubby Sweeper Cover crochet pattern is made from scrubby and cotton yarn. Holding 2 strands together. It is fairly simple to make using hdc and single crochet stitches. And no sewing! The sweeper slides on perfect.

Now, let me tell you why the scrubby yarn is necessary. Yes, you could make one with just cotton yarn, buuuut it wouldn’t be as fabulous! The scrubby yarn itself picks up dirt! Ya heard that right….it picks up dirt! And lint. And dust. And hair. And it holds on to it. So, it can be used wet OR dry! Or both!

What I do is sweep the floor first with it. You will be AMAZED! I swept my floors with a regular broom. Then went over them with the Scrubby Sweeper Cover and there was hair, dust, lint, and dirt stuck in the fibers! YUCK! All of that was left on my floor AFTER I had already swept them!

Then used cleaning solution to mop the floors. They got waaaay cleaner than they ever would have by using the disposable wet or dry wipes. It’s cost-friendly, eco-friendly, and let’s face it….way better! I make mine in white or off white because I use bleach cleaner sometimes on my floors.

Finished cover measure 10″ x 5″ and fits most sweepers. To assure fit, measure your first. Modify as needed.

Materials Needed

• About 1/2 skein of Red Heart Scrubby Cotton Yarn
• About 1/2 skein of Cotton yarn. I used Hobby Lobby’s I Love This Cotton. Mostly because it’s my favorite cotton
• I 5.5mm Crochet Hook
• Scissors
• Tapestry Needle
• Stitch Markers (optional)

Stitches Used

• hdc – half double crochet
• sc – single crochet
• join – sl st to first st
• sl st – slip stitch

Pattern Notes

• Pattern uses 1 strand of scrubby and 1 strand of cotton held and worked together.
• Ch 1 never counts as a stitch
• join to top of first st, not in chain

Scrubby Sweeper Cover Crochet Pattern

Using 1 strand of Scrubby Yarn and 1 strand of Cotton Yarn held together, Chain 15

Row 1: hdc in second chain from hook and each chain across. (14) ch 1 and turn

Row 2-26: hdc in each st across. (14) ch 1 and turn.

Finish off. Fold in each side 4 rows. Line up the 4 rows with the underneath rows. Place stitch markers to hold the rows in place and keep them lined up.

Working Around Outside Parameter

Attach yarn with slip stitch to corner of work (in the folded rows, still using 2 strands). Ch 1, sc in the ends of each row going through top and bottom over lapping rows to “sew” them together. Sc in the end of each row across making sure to continue to line up the rows when getting to the other end.

Place 2 sc in the corner and sc across the 14 hdc (you will be placing sc between rows 4-5, it doesn’t have to be perfect just do the best you can to place the sc across). Place 2 more sc in the other corner.

Sc back up the other side making sure to line up the over lapping rows. Sc across the other side’s row of 14 hdcs. Placing 2 sc in the corners and joining to first sc. Finish off.

Working Around Inside

Attach yarn to corner of the inside of cover. Sc across each 18 sc in inside, sl st across the hdc row, sc across the other sides 18 sc, sl st across the hdc row. join to first st. Finish off.

Weave in ends. And attach to your Swiffer or whatever sweeper you use! Enjoy some hassle free cleaning.
