Hey there! I’m about to host my first ever Crochet Along (CAL) and I’m not even sure I know what I’m doing. But one thing I do know, is that it sure sounds fun! Please join me in the Textured Fun Square Sampler Blanket Crochet Along (CAL) Sept – Oct 2019.
How it works
So, how does a crochet along work? A CAL is where a pattern is released in parts and hookers work the parts of the pattern together. The goal is for us to connect on social media, especially Facebook and Instagram. There I will be posting details each week and photos, and I will encourage you to do the same. The Crochet It Creations Crochet Friends Facebook Group is the perfect place to post your photos as you are working the CAL.
What to expect for this pattern
The Fun Textured Square Sampler Blanket is full of fun textured squares. I am confident that you will love the textures of these stitches!
Some of the stitches you may have seen in Crochet It Creations previous patterns, like the Celtic Stitch and Braided Cable. Each square will not disappoint.
The CAL will last for 8 weeks from 9/5 – 10/24. A new square pattern will be posted each week on CrochetItCreations.com for a total of 6 squares. The last 2 weeks will be construction of the pattern, then the border.
The blanket can be made in any size from baby to king. The pattern has the amount of squares needed for each size. I made the throw, which is 56 squares. I made 9 squares in 4 different styles, then 10 squares in 2 styles to equal the 56. I also used 4 different colors of yarn, so I needed 14 squares in each color. You can make the pattern in any size you like.
- Square #1 – Thursday 9/5/19

Purchase the PDF of the CAL HERE – Note that the PDF only includes materials needed and details of the pattern until the CAL begins. Each week the pattern will be updated on Ravelry and you will receive and email.
Materials Needed
You will need an I 5.5mm and a J 6mm Crochet Hooks. You will need both hooks for the squares. 3 of the squares use an I hook and 3 use a J hook. The border will use a J hook. Clover Amour crochet hooks are my favorite! They have an ergonomic handle and a nice glide. When I switched to these hooks my hand cramping improved and I crochet much faster.
You will also need some medium #4 weight yarn. I like to use JoAnn’s Big Twist yarn for blankets. It is a dense acrylic yarn and works up nicely for blankets. I used 4 colors: White, Medium Teal, Medium Grey, and Soft Grey.
Sizes Available
Work the pattern in any size using the chart below. Skeins needed are for the Joann Big Twist, which is 371 yards per skein. You can replace with any other medium weight yarn that meets gauge. If making the baby size and using a different yarn, you can determine the approximate yardage by multiplying skeins needed of Big Twist by skeins used for this pattern. Example the Baby size uses 4 x 371 = 1,484 yards.
Size | Measurements | Square Layout | Amount of Squares | Skeins |
Baby | 36” x 36” | 5 x 5 | 25 | 4 |
Crib | 44” x 52” | 6 x 7 | 42 | 7 |
Throw | 50” x 60” | 7 x 8 | 56 | 9 |
Twin | 68” x 90” | 9 x 12 | 108 | 17 |
Full | 78” x 90” | 11 x 12 | 132 | 20 |
Queen | 90” x 100” | 12 x 14 | 168 | 26 |
King | 110” x 110” | 15 x 14 | 210 | 31 |
Like I mentioned earlier, I used 4 different colors. You can use any amount of colors or make as solid. The pattern has 6 different squares. In the construction of the pattern I will show you how I laid mine out. But you can lay yours out in any fashion.
I used 2 skeins of Medium Teal, Medium Grey, and White, then 3 skeins of Soft Grey. Each skein of Big Twist will make approximately 7 squares. The extra skein of Soft Grey was for the border.

I want you to review and become familiar with stitches used in this pattern. Like I said, each square is full of texture. So, you’ll be making post stitches and cables. Each square will come with a video tutorial, but it helps if you get familiar with the stitches used before hand.

Hello there! New to your page, brought here looking for just this kind of throw! I’ve been working on this since the quarantine began – calling it my quarantine quilt! I’m loving it so far and have completed about 20 squares so far. I have completed a square or 2 for every pattern, and I think I’m going to leave out the braided cable square. I’m not an expert crocheter by any stretch of the imagination and it’s a bit difficult for me. Would you suggest finding another pattern and work up a 7″ square, or leaving it to 5 patterns instead of 6? If you suggest finding another pattern, could you suggest a stitch? I was thinking something like a bean or small bobble, but I’m afraid it’ll snag over time. I’d be happy to send you photos if you are collecting any! I really enjoy your videos, you go along at a perfect tempo for me. You often mention your lighting or sound, but quite honestly I’ve found both to be just fine from my laptop. Maybe if my screen were smaller it would be difficult, but I wouldn’t personally use something like my phone for a crochet tutorial. Thank you for putting this together! I was looking for something like this after seeing an advertisement for something similar, but it was a monthly subscription kit kind of deal, and I didn’t need that. I’m over flowing with yarns and needles! I really appreciate all the effort you’ve put into this – future luck to you!
