The Doggy Sweater crochet pattern in size Extra Large is for dogs 40-60 lbs. Finished sweater measures 27”Lx30”W approx. 600 yds. It is constructed from the bottom up to the neck. Post stitches are used at the bottom, then work in the round for the body of the sweater.
Using 100% acrylic medium weight yarn it’ll be sure to keep your pet warm. Make it with an I 5.5mm Crochet Hook. My favorite hook is Clover Amour. They have a nice ergonomic handle and glide.

Can I just chain 44 and do a row of hdc? I hate foundation rows
You would want to chain 45 and hdc in 2nd ch from hook
Yes ..I did.
Thank you so much for the free patterns it’s like hard to find today and I can’t wait to start my sweater from my little lucy and I’m going to make one of your extra large ones for the dog next door Lindsey you’re the best again thank you
You are so welcome!
Love the pattern but the xtra large was a bit small and short. What would you recommend I do for an xxlarge one please?
My dog is about 85. To compensate for his larger size I used a J hook not a I… Made him try it on several times to add a couple rows under before legs, after leg holes 3 rows still near legs so added 8 rows, I decreased 2 stitches on 5 and 7 to start up the neck. Use your dog as the model.
My American Staffordshire terrier weighs 120 lbs and I cannot find a free pattern to make a coat to fit him.
Awesome sweater. What a beautiful dog. He looks like a sweetheart. I just want to kiss him on his forehead. ❤️. My dog died in January, I miss him like crazy. Thank you for sharing the pattern. Have a beautiful night.
I’m making the 40 to 60 dog sweater but doesn’t say how many you need to crochet for each leg
I did not add the stitch amount on any of the leg holes, just need SC around.
Hi, going to make this but want to use a bit thicker yarn, do I just add rows?( and what hook size would I need please???
Tracy x
I would not recommend to use any other yarn that what the pattern recommends, unless it is a “thinner” larger weight and in that case I would check gauge and adjust your hook until you meet guage.
Hi, I’m new at crocheting and I’m doing the doggie jumper, when I’ve done the chain 42 and then do hoc in every st.
When it says “join” does this mean sl st into the 1st st of previous round????
Any help would be appreciated
Thank you in advance
After round 20, you will chain 42. Then slip stitch to the first stitch of round 20 to form a circle and start working in the round.
