Jessica Cooper The Doggy Sweater is a crochet pattern in size medium is for dogs 18-28lbs. It measures approximately 119”L x 22”W. It will be sure to keep your dog warm this winter.
The Medium Dog Sweater Crochet Pattern is constructed in round rows working from the bottom up. It uses HDC stitches and front post/back post with medium #4 weight yarn. 100% acrylic yarn works nicely, but can use any fiber of yarn. It also uses an I 5.5mm Crochet Hook.

Pattern Notes
- Be sure to check gauge before starting your dog sweater, different yarn or tension can alter the sizing.
- Beginning chain DOES NOT count as a stitch.
- Pattern is worked from the bottom up to the neck.
- Optional to place a stitch marker on the last st of each round instead of joining for the body of the sweater.
- Measure around your pet’s chest to check the fit or which size to make. Give 1-2” for stretching.

Size Medium Dog Sweater Crochet Pattern
Row 1: FHDC 48, turn. (48)
Row 2-12: Ch 1, HDC in first st, *FPHDC in next st, BPHDC in next st;* repeat from * to * across until last st, HDC in last st, turn (48)
LOOSELY ch 30, be sure to not twist chain, Sl St to first st to form a circle.
Rnd 13-31: Ch 1, HDC in each st and ch around, join. (78) Finish off last rnd, unless ends in the center of the underside of the sweater.
Constructing the leg holes – Find the center of the underside of the sweater and join with a Sl St. (See photo 1)
Rnd 32: Ch 1, HDC in 6 sts, ch 13, sk 13 sts, HDC in 40 sts, ch 13, sk 13, HDC in 6 sts, join. (78)
Rnd 33-35: Ch 1, HDC in each st and ch around, join. (78)
Rnd 36: Ch 1, *HDC in 11 sts, HDC2TOG;* repeat from * to * around, join. (72)
Rnd 37: Ch 1, HDC around, join. (72)
Rnd 38: Ch 1, *HDC in 7 sts, HDC2TOG;* repeat from * to * around, join. (64)
Rnd 39-42: Ch 1, HDC around, join. (64)
Rnd 43-48: Ch 1, *FPHDC in 1 st, BPHDC in next st;* repeat from * to * around, join. (64) Finish off.
Add a border to the bottom & leg holes
Sl St to the bottom right corner, ch 1, SC across the last row of post sts, SC down the side of the HDC rows (place 1 SC in the end of each row), SC across the chain row, SC back up the other side of the HDC rows, finish off.
Sl St to the corner of the leg hole, SC around, join. Repeat on the other side. Weave in ends.

Need help with row 32 of the medium dog sweater. Not sure what you mean by” you will have to hack in more stitches to center the leg holes”.
Due to hdc stitches, the seam angles. Just follow the pattern as written. Those were extra notes to understand why there were more stitches before the leg hole than after
I don’t seem to be coming out right the way it’s written. Back to it lol

Leg holes are not lining up for me either. What do you mean by “hdc more in the beginning”? There is 8 before and after the chains?
For row 32? You have 8 hdc at the beginning of the row. That is the center of the leg holes. You join to the first hdc of that that center 8 hdc after the second leg hole.
I’m sorry, I’m confused. Do you have a photo? If I hdc 8, ch 8 then skip 8 my leg holes don’t line up properly with the opening underneath (where we were working in rows).

Hello lovely! Really like the pattern, and I managed to do a sweater which looks suitable for a small dog, as I couldn’t quite get the tension right … Just wanted to check if the gauge you’ve indicated is intended to be single stitches or double crochet (or even hdcs).
I tried doing a gauge square with aran wool and a 6mm hook and get about 12 rows instead of 8 with single crochet, so just wanted to check I’m reading that right.

Can I do a chain for the foundation
My seam actually goes to the left not the right so my leg holes aren’t lining up right. Can you recommend anything?

Don’t know how it went from 24 stitches to 64
I put a HDC and a chain in each stitch but it doesn’t add up to 64
If you have 40 HDC stitches and chain 24 then join to form a circle for the body you will get 64 stitches.
hello, I am really confused with the lines 12 to 13. I have chained the 30 and then slip stich it to the first stich of that 30 right? And then after that, how do I crochet this? It is really confusing and the pictures don’t show that part. What do I do? Thank you.

I get asked often about selling price and I don’t have a standard answer. When I sell I take in to account the cost of material and the time it takes to make. I usually charge about $10/hr but may have to adjust based on the market/my area.
I used this pattern to make a dog sweater for my dog….I have a 60 pound staffy (pit bull) and I used a hook a half size smaller and had to follow the pattern for the medium —-18 to 28 pounds—–size for it to fit her….
So to find a good fit for your dog, you may need to play around with the different sizes and hooks to find the perfect for your dog….but it is a simple and easy to follow pattern which I love
