Who doesn’t love a crochet pattern that serves multiple purposes. Well that’s just what this Versatile Blanket Wrap Crochet Pattern is! It can be worn as a wrap, a poncho, a shawl, a scarf, or use as a blanket.
It is worked up using light weight yarn like Lion Brand Coboo. Coboo is super soft and is a cotton/bamboo blend. It will keep you warm without being too hot.
The Blanket Wrap is worked just like a rectangle blanket. It uses basic stitches and is very beginner friendly. Complete the look with fringe and buttons, the possibilities are endless.

Materials Needed
- H 5mm Crochet Hook, or size needed to obtain gauge
- Lion Brand Coboo Yarn (Light #3 weight, 3.5oz/100g, 232yds/212m) 6 Cakes (1300 yds) for Standard Size and 8 Cakes (1800 yds) for Plus Size
- Scissors
- Tapestry Needle
- 4 1” buttons
Gauge
- 4” square = 7.5 Rows x 16 DC
Stitches Used/Abbreviations (US Terms)
- SC – Single Crochet
- DC – Double Crochet
- Sl St – Slip Stitch
- Ch – Chain
- CSDC – Chainless Starting Double Crochet
- FDC – Foundation Double Crochet
- Join – Slip Stitch to the top of the first stitch
- St(s) – Stitch(es)
Pattern Notes
- Standard is listed first and measures approximately 66”L x 25”W. Plus size is in parentheses and measures approximately 78”L x 27”W.
- Beginning chain DOES NOT count as a stitch.
- Pattern is worked in a long rectangle like a blanket. It comes in 2 sizes – standard & plus.
- Pattern uses the Chainless Starting Double Crochet technique that creates the Double Crochet stitch without having to chain. Click the link in the stitches used to see the video to make. Or replace with a chain 3 that counts as a Double Crochet stitch.
Start Here – Versatile Blanket Wrap
Row 1: FDC 90(100), turn. (90,100) or replace the foundation row with chaining to the number listed for FDC + 2, DC in 3rd ch from hook and each ch across.
Row 2 – 10: CSDC, DC across, turn. (90,100)
Row 11: CSDC, *ch 1, sk 1 st, DC* repeat from * to * across, DC in last st, turn.
Row 12: CSDC, *ch 1, sk 1 st, DC in ch-1 sp* repeat from * to * across, DC in last st, turn.
Row 13: CSDC, DC in each st and ch across, turn. (90,100)
Row 14 – 22: CSDC, DC across, turn. (90,100)
Rows 23 – 130(154): Repeat rows 11 – 22
Do not finish off, turn and work across the ends of the rows. You are creating 3 rows along the side which will be the top of the shawl for the buttons.
Row 1: CSDC in side of first st, DC across the side of the rows (placing approximately 260(308) sts), turn. (260, 308)
Row 2 – 3: CSDC in side of first st, DC across, turn. (260, 308)

Border
Do not finish off, turn and work SC around the entire shawl. Join, finish off. Weave in all ends.
Using remaining yarn cut strips approximately 10” long. Tie fringe around 1 long side and both of the short sides about every 10 sts.

Once fringe is completed, attach 4 buttons down one side of the border, about 10(12)” from the bottom and 3” apart. Use the spaces between the other side’s DC sts as the button holes.

Hi, I found this pattern on Ravelry and would love to try it out. I’ve been hunting for a cotton/viscose blend in an emerald/forest green, since Coboo has such a limited color range. Galileo by KnitPicks (which comes in the color I’m looking for) has a similar fiber content, but is sport weight, rather than DK. Do you think I could get away with using it? Thanks for the lovely pattern, by the way!
